First summer in our house and would love just a normal grass lawn. My partner just took a strimmer to this and its basically all weeds, I dont know where to start? Or who to hire ? Or what to ask for
The main thing to get a good lawn is regular cutting. The weeds won’t like it but the grass will.
That should be enough to get it looking decent and if you want to go further then could think about scarifying, overseeding, and so on…
If you’re really in a hurry then could always put down fresh sod

That needs a good rake to lift the grass off the soil. Then mow. Wait a day in between if the grass is wet.
Rake again to pull out dead grass, moss.
Mow again.
‘Over’ seed the grass.

A lawn is effectivly a desert in your garden thats nice to walk on. It requires all sorts of pesticides and hard work to keep the weeds out of it and maintain. Ive a lawn and Im trying to get it as small as possible so I dont have to cut the damn thing the whole time. Getting to a lawn is only the beginning. without cutting it weekly , youll be back to that in a season. Youve the makings of an interesting garden there with a bit of imagination.
