Southwest Ohio, USA

Plant has several growths, I suspect it grows similarly to thistle off tap roots and nodules. I tried to include several different views.

I’m hoping it’s milkweed but plan to remove it if it’s not a good butterfly plant when we mulch and add weed barrier this year.

Don’t bother with a weed barrier btw. Those things don’t prevent weeds from popping up, and start to fall apart after a few years, leaving plastic fibers everywhere. Just use cardboard and mulch.

    Milkweed, crucial for Monarch butterflies

Milkweed! Great for butterflies but prone to Milkweed beetle and Oleander Aphid infestations. Keep an eye out for those if you want to encourage healthy, native wildlife.

Milkweed!! Leave it alone!! The monarch caterpillars need it!!
