Ok I’ve had this guy for about three years he always sat happily on my plant stand and I made sure not to overwater him. About 6 months to a year ago he grew a little pup and all was well…. Until I apparently ruined his life. So I was moving furniture around in my room and moved him to on top of my desk and gave him a grow light (a temporary change until I finish reorganizing my bedroom) I noticed he looked a little sad and pale recently but I figure he just needed some water so when I took him down to water today I noticed all this white stuff on him then went to poke it and he just collapsed and brown jelloish liquid started to seep out. I noticed the pup had fell off so I put it in with another plant but I’m really sad. What did I do wrong? Was the move too much? Everyone else seems fine. The only other change was that I watered a couple of plants with old aquarium water because I read that they like that but it’s not often I usually use regular water and I’m not even sure that he got the aquarium water at all.

Forgot to note it has not been more than two weeks since I moved him… this is very recent because he was bright green when I move him and watered him last. Everything points to overwatering but I only water about once every two weeks and the pup is still perfectly green and healthy. Also even though I think I already know the answer is this salvageable?
Some of mine ended up the same. It may be overwatering as you said. Do you time the watering or do you go by finger test or another method? Someone mentioned to me that cactus can go even longer 4 weeks…months at a time without water. Kind of took that to heart and just made sure soil is dry and then wait even longer before watering.
Definitely over watered
Too much water, not enough sun
This didn’t happen overnight. It died a long time ago. It’s just showing it now.
It’s pudding now
Im sorry for your loss, I had to throw out an aloe yesterday after failing to fight off pests on it after like a year of trying
Your cactus is cactus
Death ☠️
rot, typically over watering but could be mold/fungus
Ah yes, very beautiful
I’m surprised that as snarky and “knowledgeable” as this group of people seems to be, that no one has mentioned your substrate. it likely held onto too much water, contributing to the drowning. you need a much more porous and sandy soil that doesn’t retain the water when you do water it.
Poking it with the stick is killing me 😩😩😩
I’m sorry you overwatered it way like way overwatered .. lesson learned
Next time neglect them more and somehow they will live
Too much water and wrong substrate. I water my cactus sometimes and make sure they are in a really chunky mix.
I definitely go too far with neglect of my cactus , but you’ll kill a cactus with too much water well before you kill it with not enough.
Is that just plain potting soil? That’ll do it. Cacti need a super airy fast draining mix, like coco coir and coarse sand
maybe it just needs better vibes or a little less water? they can be pretty sensitive, honestly.
Cacti aren’t houseplants
