I'm in upstate New York. I have been slowly expanding my back yard over years pulling out sumac stumps and grapevine stumps and cleaning trash from previous owners. I'm really hoping this is grapevine, but I kinda think its japanese knot weed. In a furious rage I pulled atleast a hundred of these and as much of the roots as I could get. Is every piece of root going to grow again? If this is knotweed and I keep pulling these will it kill them or is glyphosate going to be needed?

    That’s almost certainly Jap knotweed.

If this is Knotweed, there’s plenty of posts / literature on how to do your best to get rid of it with chemical cycles.

Look it up, but I believe the general consensus is to spray it with glyphosate early in its Fall blossoming cycle to push the chemical down to the roots. And then chop it down in early Spring of the following year (off the top of my head).

And a few cycles of that should kill them
