Kentucky 31 is possibly the most HATED grass seed of all time and any reddit thread or forum discussion always has somebody saying how horrible this seed is. So naturally, I bought a bag and planted it in my yard to see if it’s really as bad as everyone says it is. I’m going to find out if this budget seed is absolute trash OR if it’s a great low cost option. Overseeding and growing grass from bare dirt can be hard and I’m not taking any short cuts. Ky 31 is most expensive to buy in my area. Never heard of it as junk seed
Just reseeded 2 wooded acres with a spike aerator/drop spreader. We have sandy soil (close to river). This grass seed is great! It's already coming in thick after a week and a half.
You spared no expense with all that equip.
That's a heavy shade area. It's hard to keep fescue going in the shade after the first year. Give us a follow up video, please. 🙂

In 20 years of this I NEVER heard such nonsense about bright green.
Just more internet bullshit being peddled like fact.
Some like darker green. Some like lighter green. Some like in the middle.
Most don't give a rats ass either way and will look at you like they are having a stroke and choking on a cherry pit at the same time.
i mean no offense but people need to start purposely using native grasses, we need to do away with these cultivars bred in greenhouse labs from european grasses and just use the stuff that already grows here naturally and thus doesnt need a bunch of water and fertilizer to look nice, in fact the whole concept of a bunch of wide open grass yards needs to go away, it isnt 1850 anymore, having a yard isnt a sign of being a noble, id much rather have a native plant garden maybe with some manicured pathways through it or some mowed spots so it can be used
Okay for areas that are usually dirt. It wil invade your good lawn and is an ugly/clumpy grass. Meant for pastures.

I had that pull behind dethatcher but it's honestly garbage. I got one of the sunjoe dethatchers and it's a night and day difference. The pull behind just tears up grass very coarsely and the push dethatcher pulls out literal bales of thatch it's an awesome tool. Ended up ditching the tractor towed one as a result.
I have never seen more steps and make-work to sow a small area of grass seed.

I’ve used k 31 many times and it’s great stuff in the right application. And it makes a beautiful thick lawn but yeah , not dark like KBG. Stuff is bulletproof , will grow on anything. Like I said , great stuff in the right application. If you have a troubled lawn , use it and you’ll love it.
IT AIN'T GOT NO BLADES ON IT
There’s a wide range of quality with K31. Check the tag for; other crop seeds, weed seeds, germination percentage, noxious weeds, etc. If it’s a cheaper non blue tag brand you might be bringing in undesirable weeds and grasses.

After a few years K31 looks like crabgrass. Mature leaves are thick and rough.

What is the best seed for shade??? That is all i care about. Ill buy expensive seed if it will last. I live near Detroit Michigan. I have large trees that give a ton of shade. Half my yard is dirt….i want to plant grass this spring. PLEASE HELP!
