Datura. Lovely but short lived blooms. Don’t eat unless you like waking nightmares. Usually animals won’t eat it by choice unless they’re particularly slow.
Edit: Bad spelling on my part.

Congratulations! That is not safe for anyone.
Datura Wrightii, Jimson weed. Don’t eat any part, beware the thorns. One dude gave himself an orchiotomy after eating a few seeds.
Seriously bad trip

Datura, highly toxic

Pretty and poisonous. My dogs have never bothered the ones that spring up after the rains, but if you have doubts about your pup best get rid of it.

Delirium, Psychosis and double diarrhea in flower form, also known as **sacred datura** (*Datura wrightii*).

Datura. Poisonous.

My mom calls them moonflowers because they bloom at dusk. They’re pretty and come back every year. I never purposely grew them, but I let it do its thang and enjoyed having it.

These are actually REALLY cool plants. Native to soCal. It’s a nightshade. Pretty flowers. Like all other nightshades (including tomato plant leaves) it is poisonous. Alcohol is a poison too though so… I’ve never had trouble with these and dogs. I will say – they have crazy robust roots and are about the most drought hardy plant I’ve ever seen.
This is in fact a datura. There are a lot of people who try to eat the seeds for hallucinogenic trips but basically just puke everywhere. I went to college with some guys that tried that. From the outside looking in it did just look like someone willingly poisoning themselves.

I love them so pretty

This grew wild all over the place where I grew up. We used to play with them. We’d find a flower with a bee in it, then very carefully enclose that bee inside the giant flower and listen to it buzz for just a bit. We weren’t jerks — we were gentle — but we liked hearing the bee sound in the “balloon” we made. I’m 55 now, and I only learned LAST YEAR that we could have really damaged ourselves with this plant.

Kind of surprised by all the people saying not to eat it, why is the first thought to try and eat it

Datura. Here’s mine (Phoenix). Volunteered last year, and survived the winter. Follow the advice of the other commenters and do not ingest any part of the plant. I’ve read dozens of reports from people that have and no one enjoys the experience. I have also read that chemicals on the plant can damage your eyes, so should you have to touch the plant, wash your hands.
I grow the purple variety. Metel datura. Absolutely beautiful but datura can easily take over a space if not grown in pots.

Datura! It is lovely and hella poisonous
Zealousideal_Pop_273
We call it Jimsonweed where I live. It is Datura though. It’s pretty poisonous. Also gets you high. Fine line between high and seizures though.

It smells awful when you cut it along with the other stuff people have said. Seed pods produce a billion seeds too.
buffdaddy77
I know its needed as a warning to people that it’s poisonous, but it’s kinda funny everyone is telling OP not to eat a flower that they probably never even considered eating lol

I had one come up out of the blue last year. Jimsonweed. Thought it was cool, but my fig likes to chew on stalks so I finally cut it down. Too dangerous but very cool.

I hate to sound like a fear monger, but a young family member of mine once underestimated how dangerous this plant could be, and they were institutionalized with terrifying delirium for two weeks from transdermal contact with someone else’s ornamental datura. It was a horrible experience that I never would’ve believed could be possible before I saw it happen.

Datura, pretty flowers, but quite toxic. They’re a hallucinogenic, but the line between tripping bawls and painful death is REALLY thin.

I remember when I worked at a nursery the datura always smelled like peanut butter
