I’m building a dense canopy bioactive vivarium but I’m not sure what to stock it with. Preferably very unusual looking reptiles. And social. I was gonna do emerald tree skinks but it might not be deep enough. It’s 45 inch tall 32 wide 17 deep. Although some of it is taken up by the background.. any suggestions appreciated!

  1. Pick animal then build the enclosure, not the other way around.

Wow, I would not be able to tell this enclosure is almost 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide by this photo!

That size of enclosure is more than enough for ETS. I would go with ETS. They fit your criteria really well

Green anole? I’ve been thinking about doing a green anole vivarium recently, they’re small, cute, active, arboreal. Might be a good fit.

It should be fine as the minimum for one, which while they’re fairly social can be housed alone. You’re only off the depth by one inch, and you exceed the minimum height and width (going by reptifile standards). You could always get a larger enclosure in the future and get more. My other suggestions are basically going to be geckos because those are what I mostly know, feel free to ignore if you don’t want a gecko.

You could probably do one of the leaf-tail gecko, like the santanic leaf tailed gecko. There’s also a ton more species.

There’s also the New Caledonians. The branches are probably too small to support a leachianus, but I think a chahoua could be very happy there!

You also have the day geckos! If you want something gorgeous and incredibly smart the giant day gecko is perfect. Gold dust day geckos are also fairly social, so long as you keep a maximum of one male. But groups of all females are perfectly good, especially if you don’t plan to breed. Your size enclosure would be great for a group of them!
