Got my first string of hearts today. I think that they are just potted in pure soil, which I think will be too dense from what I’ve read. Should I repot now , even though they seem to be doing good ? Also , is that green growth on top of the soil a bad sign?

I would leave it for a bit and see how it does. When I got my first string of hearts I immediately repotted with a bit of cacti/ succulent mix and more perlite because I had also felt like what it came with was really dense. I ended up losing a ton of strands due to root rot. I ended up downsizing the pot recently and she’s currently recovering. I’m not sure if anyone else has had better luck with a different mix but I’d definitely recommend waiting to repot if it’s doing well!

I personally would leave it alone for about a week before doing anything to it at all. And when you do go to repot it, make sure you use well draining soil. Mine currently is in a mix of cactus soil and perlite and it’s doing super well!

I would give them a week or 2 to adjust to your house before repotting them. The green is just a bit of algae on top of the potting mix, greenhouses are humid so it can grow on the potting mixes growers use. Are you going to pot them together so you have a bigger fuller pot? I just ask because when I got a variegated string of hearts I also got 2 then potted together and I’m so glad I did. Mine are smaller than this though but it’s fine they are very happy hanging in my west facing bedroom window and are very pink and pretty and growing like crazy.
