Question about Autumn Blaze Maple and co-dominant leaders.
I'm a homeowner and received this Autumn Blaze Maple for free. It seems to have 3 co-dominant leaders. Before I plant, which 2 should I remove? Mainly concerned with health and beauty of the tree. Thanks!
but I’d plant it first, and then since it’s already into spring I wouldn’t prune it until late fall now.
(and then I’d probably make #1 the supreme leader. arborist might recommend “reduction cuts” where you DONT cut all the way to the 3-way crotch, you just top those other leaders, and then next year bring them down further. the idea is to persuade the tree to put most of its wood on the main leader, but still benefit from the energy its invested in the other 2)

not an arborist.
