I don’t really enjoy honey. I keep bees because they are an important part of our subsistence, and for myself, because I feel happy, peaceful and relaxed when I’m with them.
BUT! One day, I decided to try adding honey to my baby back ribs recipe and I haven’t looked back to other recipes since!
I took something I didn’t really enjoy from the homestead and made something great!!
What are your secret hacks from homestead ingredients?

I’ve been making honey sweetened lemonade and iced lattes. I’ve really enjoyed substituting refined sugar with honey.
OPs grinding up bees for ribs 😳
Never liked honey on its own but BBQ ribs? That’s the sweet spot! Curious, you tried honey butter yet?
Bee ribs?!
Kidding, that sounds damn good on ribs
I have a lot of happy non edible byproducts in general from processing/harvesting food sources but for actual “secret ingredients” I have a pretty good elderberry scone recipe using the fruit in a funky way
I have some great elderberry trees that I either let animals get or turn into booze things or syrup
I like drying and dehydrating fruits so I tried dehydrating the elderberry harvest one year and spice grinding it to turn it into a powder
Makes a pretty cool add to a scone recipe married with the flour and you can still add other spices or fruit/glaze or whatever. It’s not like scones are healthy but it’s a good way to cram some more nutrients into a breakfast pastry too. Doesn’t add much but a background floral tartness but it’s nice with a simple glaze
I tried using a shit ton to really change the color of the scone but I didn’t like that
Those are some big bees.
