I am brand new to owning plants and I got these spider plant babies from a local coffee shop. They have these long white sections sticking straight up- is that the root? Are these ready to go into soil? Any tips on helping these babies thrive would also be greatly appreciated as I’m a complete newbie.

Hiya. The long stick firm thing is the sort of branch where the babies grow off of. The small white nubs are the roots, I tend to wait until they are an inch or just below to put them into soil. I’d definitely keep these in water and sun for another 2/3 weeks or so before putting them into soil – and when you do water them often to keep their moisture high until they adapt to soil 🙂 That’s what’s worked for me – UK here
Wait until your roots have roots!! Happy growing!
Let it go a few more weeks
I grew this one from that size. Just stick it in soil and don’t let it fully dry. Shaded area. I had mine in my long nursery pot under a cupboard with a bit of indirect sunlight and it grew so much.

I put it in a little pot of soil while its still connected to the mama and it roots pretty quickly!
It’s a spider plant so you can basically do whatever you want and it will be fine as long as you water it
You can put them directly into soil. That’s how they propagate in the wild.
Yes we have lots of those they are tougher than you think
