He wants to dig down and either pull it out with his atv or use his chain saw to cut it below the ground level. Then the plan is to cover it with soil and landscape fabric so it never sees the light of day again.

I think we should hire someone with more experience and equipment.

My husband does have experience and training in stump removal so he’s not unskilled. I just think this is above his expertise.

Burning bush is invasive where we live so the bush needed to go.

It’ll be harder than he expected, but he’ll probably get it out.

Just be ready to call 911 if he flies over the handlebars

Cut with a reciprocating saw and the longest blade you can find. Make sure there’s nothing important you can cut, irrigation electrical, and try to cut the major roots at the bottom. Hook up atv or better a winch, and slowly pull it out.

Hubby can do it for sure. Just be mindful of pvc, wires, etc.

Have you tried more digging it out, instead of giving up digging it out?

Do the trick with the car tire and the come along.

It’s almost out. The atv will just get damaged if used. Time and patience

I got my popcorn ready……just give us updates

Digging out is tough but probably possible. Get a bandsaw, skillsaw or something that can cut the larger roots. Dig wider and deeper around the stump in order to see whats going on in there.

  9. Tire and chain. Chain the tree…. put the chain over the tire. And to the atv. You want the chain to pull UP and over.

The “Ayes” have it; record and report!

I’m gonna be honest. As someone who worked in an ER, go pay one of those stump removal people who have those machines that just grind them down.

The ATV won’t be strong enough, and I hope he’s good at math to make sure the pressure on the chain isn’t too much cause if it snaps…..he’s gonna be missing some part of him.

Seriously, either trim it down as far as it will go, drill some holes in it and let nature takes its course or get a professional

Get a shovel, a pick or Pulaski, and a sawzall. Your husband is going to get hurt because hes trying to be lazy.

  13. ApisBondar

Use a car wheel while doing so. Check it out on YouTube to see how it is done

We just removed 2 of these using a chain saw, and just started removing the crown and some of the surrounding roots by digging around a little by little. Sprayed the remaining roots with brush killer and it’s dead now.

The roots are MASSIVE, if you pull it out using an ATV, your garden bed will be destroyed plus possible damage to your home depending on where those roots are.

Maybe farm jack instead of atv? Try to sawzall a few more roots first.
