Hello everyone! I’ll start by saying I’m a complete beginner.
I’ve been following the Agrotonomy Instagram page and have fallen in love with this world. I’d love to have their style of hydroponic towers, but I don't want to spend that kind of money to start a hobby I’m not even sure I’ll stick with yet. So, I thought I’d create my own 3D model inspired by their design (see pictures).
I just finished a rough sketch, and my main concern is the side openings. I noticed they clip a sprouted rock wool cube to the brim of each opening, but how does it catch enough water in the beginning? Specifically, how does the water reach the plant before the roots have grown long enough to reach the inner chamber?
Other than that, do you see any potential issues with this 3D model (besides the missing cap, which I'm adding later)?
I'd appreciate any advice you have for a beginner! Thanks!

Great start! I recommend modeling the net cup you plan to use to ensure there are no assembly interferences. How are you going to hold the pieces together? I believe those towers have threaded rods which provide a compressive force to ensure the pieces don’t separate when it’s windy. To ensure the growing medium gets wet in the early stages, direct more flow to the outer diameter where the seed pods will be. You don’t need holes I don’t think you need the 2 inner rings of holes, only holes above the next levels seeds. Your holes also look quite small which will slow the flow rate and may get clogged with roots. I’d also consider adding a raised lip around each so that water can pool in each level giving the plants water like DWC if the power ever goes out.
