An Old Tire Became a Stone-Lined Pond With Pink Water Lilies 🌿



A worn-out car tire sitting on bare ground in a garden corner got a second life as a miniature pond. The tire was lined with pond liner, then packed with smooth river stones inside and out until no rubber was visible anywhere. Once the stones were in place the whole structure looked like a natural stone basin. A garden hose filled it slowly with clear water, the level rising over the stones until the pond was full and perfectly still. Small aquatic plants went in one at a time — tiny Nymphaea lily pads, a few blades of Iris pseudacorus, a sprig of parrot feather. Over the following weeks the lily pads spread wide across the surface, sword-shaped iris leaves grew tall at the back edge, and a white water lily opened at the center of the pond. Ornamental maiden grass and broad hosta leaves framed the outside. The whole thing went from two junkyard tires to a calm, clear water feature with blooming lilies for almost no cost.
