About five years ago I made a sorry attempt at creating bonsai from two big-box-store Dwarf Alberta Spruces. One died that very season along with a good portion of the other. Oops…
I kept the living parts of the other one around, eventually repotting it in a larger pot to see what it would do. It continued to put on new growth. Here and there I trimmed off material that my completely newbie brain didn’t think would ever make it into a bonsai design. Truthfully, I never thought ANY of it would ever be bonsai worthy, but I kept watering it and it just kept trucking along.
Today, I just impulsively thought “Awww what the heck?! I’m going to give it a go.” I dug out the cheap wire I purchased from Amazon 5 years ago and went nuts. The whole thing was pretty spur-of-the-moment and not well thought out (so much so that I forgot to take a “before” photo, which I am regretting). I am thinking of it more as a practice exercise with hopes of more bonsai in my future, but I sure did have fun!! Never mind the fact that I was pretty heavy handed and almost certainly gave it the final kiss of death this time… oh well!
