With summer fast approaching, many people are preparing their gardens for hosting or simply enjoying the sun by repotting plants, sowing seeds and tackling the most tiresome chore of all – weeding. The task is a tedious one that takes far longer than it should and often demands multiple attempts to remove the entire root system, stopping regrowth. What’s more, it generally means spending time on your hands and knees, which can aggravate back problems.

However, one weeding device has been praised by customers as the ‘best garden tool ever’, making the job easier on the body while appearing to remove weeds successfully on the first attempt. The Ohuhu Weed Puller, available on Amazon, normally retails at £26.99 but is currently reduced to £19.97 for a limited period.

The tool requires minimal bending as it’s designed to be operated while standing, and features a steel claw at the base which is pushed into the heart of the weed. This manual weeding gadget is constructed with a reinforced lightweight aluminium alloy shaft for easy handling, while its strengthened foot pedal assists users in dealing with weeds in hard, compacted soil.

Once the claw has gripped the weed in the soil, users simply need to rotate the gadget’s handle to extract it, then push down the lever at the top to eject the weed. While it works brilliantly for most weeds, Amazon does caution against using it on weeds growing in gravel. It’s also likely unsuitable for patio weeds – for these, a tool such as the Hawksmoor Garden Tool Patio Weeder, priced at £4.99, might be more appropriate, reports the Mirror.

This features an L-shaped head which makes it ideal for getting between paving slabs and other narrow gaps. For garden weeds, however, Screwfix stocks a comparable claw design in its Gardena Weed Puller with Release Mechanism, retailing at £39.99 and equipped with a pull-to-release function and similar steel jaws.

The Ohuhu Weed Puller from Amazon has been praised by shoppers as being the ‘best’ garden tool for weeding.

The Ohuhu Weed Puller has proved popular amongst gardening enthusiasts, with one buyer praising it as ‘weed killer at its best’. They raved: “The perfect solution to get you the perfect lawn. Easy to use. Value for money. Just fill the holes. Feels strong to me.”

Boasting an average rating of 4.3 stars, another customer shared their experience: “This is the perfect tool for anyone with back problems. No bending, easy to use, cannot express how wonderful it is. Does perfectly what it says. It leaves a hole, but that is easily sorted. For me the perfect tool!”

One user even declared: “I have fallen in love with weeding thanks to this tool!! So easy to operate and totally uproot weeds. It’s a quick and perfect way to get rid of weeds. Very well made and thoughtful design.”

One problem that certain customers faced, though, was the absence of any instructions included with the product, which proved less than ideal. A four-star reviewer commented: “I did not receive any instructions, and you must be careful that you use it correctly as it is not particularly robust. However, when you are familiar with it, it works very well. Certainly takes the back-breaking aspect out of weeding your lawn.”

Some users also discovered it created fairly sizeable gaps where weeds had been removed (which is understandable). Simply fill these with soil and grass seed to remedy this. Despite this, the majority of customers have been pleasantly impressed by the gadget, with one Amazon buyer noting: “This device is great for removing dandelions from lawns.”
