Posted last fall about our battle with bamboo left by the previous owner. We’ve now been in a 1.5 year battle – all by hand – and I’m pretty proud of what we’ve accomplished so far.
It‘s an ongoing battle but it’s a great project for getting out rage 🤷♀️
First photo is today, second is 7 months ago. Third is fall 2024.

You will lose this war sir.
Good work!
I’m in a similar situation with with something (can’t remember what it’s called. It’s not as bad as bamboo but similar.). 5 or so years on and I only get one or two sprouting each year now so much easier manage. Still hard to rip up though as it exposes a whole part of the root system/suckers or whatever they are called, that I obviously missed!
I believe in you!
While not “kill it with fire”, this is pretty awesome.
I had a physical reaction to these pictures. Our infestation wasn’t as bad but took care of it the same way, by hand. Nothing comes up now! Though if I see a suspicious stick my heart drops for a second!
I was in a similar situation years ago. Fun times. I feel your pain!!
Once you cut the bamboo and expose the roots to remove. Did you use ground clear on the roots that you couldn’t remove? I think I ended up having to but I didn’t want to risk digging all that up and it growing back. It never did.
You do you, but I’d have hired a crew that knew how to deal with bamboo and have them dig it all up. It’s money well spent. It’s all about the roots or “runners” which must be exterminated. People who plant spreading bamboo are terrorists. I’d find some bamboo-killiing weed killer and be sure to apply that to any roots you see as you dig deeply. It will come back and such a weed killer will help prevent that — mostly.
It’s giving bonfire.
And yeah it’s such a pain in the arse. I find when the sold is damp it’s much easier to dig it out.
Keeps at it. You’ll get there.
Also the battery powered lopers rule.
