I was given this plant. I thought it was an agapanthus and went to take them out of the pot and plant in the ground but it’s a bulb of some sort! bunch of these have been living happily in a shady spot that gets plenty of water for years. we live in outback western Queensland but this plant has always been in the shade. any ideas?

Agapanthus?
If it is agapanthus then it’s a highly invasive weed. People are just trying to warn you and you’re downvoting.
Could also maybe be a hippy?
Don’t plant it in the ground if it’s agapanthus for gods sake
Could be a daffodil
Put it in a pot and wait till it flowers in the spring. Then you’ll know what it is and decide if it belongs in your garden.
Could be spider lilly. I had one and my friend would tell me it was agapanthus (I have no idea about plants) untill it flowered and then they rold me it was spider lilly. I guess they look the same until they flower.
Agapantha before its had time to take over your garden
We just removed a few massive Agapanthus from our garden, would NOT recommend planting them in the garden.
I did save one, and planted it in a pot that will never move off concrete. 😂
I really don’t think that’s an aggie. Unpopular opinion but I love agapanthus in the right settings. I leave them in large clumps where nothing grows and they are fantastic pollinators, the birds love them and the frogs love the cool dense root system to stay protected. I have even seen pardalotes nest among the bases. They are a pain to dig out but I have never ever seen them growing in the bush where I live, I see lots of other noxious exotics choking the native vegetation but never these. They are the perfect plant when nothing else will survive to bring greenery into a garden. I keep mine under control by thinning out clumps every once in a while. I can think of other plants more problematic than these.
Tbh I don’t think this is agapanthus, I have those pop up in my yard too and they are much smaller than agapanthus and certainly do spread but nothing to the extent of agapanthus. Mine are daffodil I believe. Flower in spring 🥰
My agapanthus are gone forever because my sheep ate them 🙁 I’m so sad and when I see old pics I want nothing more for them to come back, WHY THE AGAPANTHUS HATE 😩 GIVE ME THEM
It’s not an agapanthus.
By the look of the bulb, I would suggest some kind of Amaryllis species. Amaryllis should be planted no deeper than the neck of the bulb. Should take full sun.
Angry panther?
My Amarylis leaves (sorry, not digging the bulb up to show you lol)

“Ya-ha-ha!”
Perhaps a Clivea? Not really any way to be sure just from the leaf and bulb. Pop it in a pot until it flowers and then you can decide where to plant it more permently
Nerine or Amaryllis. Doesn’t look like daffodil leaves, which are more fragile and thinner, and doesn’t look like an agapanthus bulb to me, but it could be. Amaryllis flowers before the foliage emerges, Amaryllis don’t flower until end of winter.
