I up and decided to garden this year for the first time and I think my biggest success has been my romaine lettuce. I have 5 in a 10 gallon grow bag (will those even form full heads by the way? I can't imagine they have enough room for that, which would be fine but I'd like to know) and one I decided to put in a random plastic pot I had in my house just to see if it would grow, and if so, how big.

The one I planted in the plastic pot specifically amazes me every single day. It sits on my front porch steps where it gets lots of morning sun and shade in the hotter afternoons. I think I've taken pictures of it every single day this past week. It's just the most beautiful and luscious plant I think I've ever seen. So green. So leafy. So cute. I'm in love. It's my baby. I don't want to eat it at this point. It's just so pretty! Everytime I leave the house with my sister (we live together away from our parents) I literally cannot help but say "just look at my lettuce!" None of my other plants make me so happy. Not even The strawberries I started from seed that just bloomed their first flowers. I'm not even a lettuce person. I really only add it to sandwiches when it's already available in the fridge and salads aren't a staple in my diet, just something I eat from time to time. I just… Really love looking at my lettuce plants.

I'm currently brainstorming ways to grow more inside my house all year round. Ideas for this are appreciated but I mostly just wanted to share my beautiful lettuce plants and the weird love I have for looking at them.

SAME. I never eat them, I just like looking at them.

Friends will then come over and say “omg is that LETTUCE??” and then I’ll eagerly say “WHY YES IT IS- WOULD YOU LIKE SOME OF MY MAJESTIC LETTUCE (pls pls say no)”.

They say yes. I do the unthinkable, I cry a little inside (or out…), and I repeat. It’s a great life overall when your lettuce would win gold at the county fair!

For indoors year round, I suggest getting a hydroponic counter top garden. I’ve had awesome luck with Ahopegarden brand purchased from Amazon. I’ve grown salad bowl, Tom Thumb, and Buttercrunch in mine as far as lettuces go. They’re also amazing for herbs and I’ve also grown a micro dwarf tomato, Tiny Tim 🌟
