Went on a trail drive in the Shenandoah. I need more greenery and I think I'm going to visit an aquarium store for a couple of plants to keep the system going. What is this friend crawling around in the substrate? My first thought was dragonfly nymph.

Maybe the nymph of a giant water bug?

I have a few videos of dragonfly nymphs…here’s one, see if it compares. I think so:

I would strongly advise to set it free. Not only do they live under water for up to 5 years and are predators, needing a lot of food, but we also need every dragonfly out there, catching mosquitoes.

Did you know they are in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most successful hunter of it’s size with a 97% success rate. Compared to lions for example with only a 30% success rate. Something around those numbers, don’t recall it specifically now.
