Hi all, new member here and I'm just learning but I need some advice on successfully propagating an ornamental tree – Prunus x subhirtella Autumnalis Rosea to be precise.

I've done a bit of research, cut off a youngish branch with 4 or 5 nodes on it, stripped the bark at the base, removed the leaves except for a few nearer the top, used rooting hormone and placed it in some good quality soil with plenty of water. It's been a matter of days but the few leaves that I left are wilting and rolling up. Is this normal? Is it even possible to propagate the tree like this or is there another method I should be using? Any advice how I get this to be successful would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had a similar issue with my rubber tree
I tipped it about 30° over to one side so that the sun hit the main branch rather than the top of the tree and voila! I got branches.
