I’m new to dahlias and this Kelvin Floodlight has been my fastest grower so far. Should I be pinching the leaves back soon? Does it look healthy?
Goal is to put it in the ground eventually but I don’t want to thwart its progress. I’m in 8b so conditions are warm enough for transplant- is it ready?
Any other tips/guidance welcome and so very appreciated!

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:
When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!
*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).
If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.
If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

I’m pretty new too, this is my 3rd year. It looks good. You can plant it now if your weather allows. It’s a little leggy, so i would bury it a tad bit deeper. If it were mine, I would wait a bit more, until it has another set or two of leaves before I planted, but a lot of people think that’s not necessary.
Don’t pinch until it’s in the ground, and don’t pinch until you have 3 or 4 sets of true leaves. 😊
