Hi all, just purchased a new property with a portion (3.5 acres) being farmland. Was wondering if anyone had any experience or tips on how to convert that farmland back to "lawn". Not looking for a perfect or even very smooth yard. Thanks

Bro dropped the most Midwest picture on the internet.

Edit: To answer the question I would personally plant trees no one wants to mow 3 acres of uneven terrain and the work has no clear long-term benefit. Having a wooded area would attract deer and other interesting to see fauna.

Do you want simple-looking and “easy” maintenance? Do you want to feed bees? Do you have any specific endgame with this section?

I will never recommend ways to create more lawn space in a world that has more lawn than we can sustain biologically, but if it’s your wish, you need to get whatever kind of seed you want to grow laid quickly.

There are LOTS of really great, biologically-supportive methods you could bring to this acreage, like the Miyawaki planting method, regenerative agriculture and food forestry, or even just various wildflowers for pollinator food. Depending on what you REALLY want out of this land, unless it is the joy of mowing it almost weekly, lawn is about the lowest value you can add to it and the most extra work and cost.

Not experienced, take my advice with GOS.
