I’ve been building a house plant arrangement in the bay window around my desk, but unfortunately the only plant that doesn’t seem to be happy is the Monstera!
I’m not sure if the issue is not enough light, or not enough water. I don’t think it’s over-watering as I have only been watering the whole lot around once a week and the pot it’s in has a drip tray so the soil doesn’t get waterlogged.
The brown spots are crispy, not soft. The leaves are also quite tightly clumped (from when I bought it a month or so ago) so I’m not sure if they are shading themselves too much.
Any advice or suggestions welcome!

Some suspect scarring on that plant. I wonder if you have some unwanted guests eating the plant.
I know plants crisp up like that due to excess light, over-fertilizing or overwatering. Good drainage like the tray is only one part of good watering. Another is checking if the soil itself is still moist towards the top 2 inches of the plant before watering again. If you continuously water the plant even when the soil is moist, you’d still be stressing the plant out and potentially causing browning, as you see here.
If it’s only been a month you may also be experiencing some transitional acclimation. Plants can become stressed and struggle for a bit when in a new environment.
I imagine it’s a combination of 2 or more of what I’ve listed above. If I had to guess, it’s probably acclimating and also being overwatered. Those are the two most common, but it really could be anything. You have to do some mild thinking to really come down to the core issues.
You have a pretty severe thrip infestation. Those black specs are thrip poo. Im sure if you inspect closely im sure you’ll find larvae and adults on there. The larvae look alot like tiny maggots. Typically like 1-2 mm long. The adults are thin and dark in color, typically black. They are about 3 mm in length.
You got thrips bruh
Please check your other plants unfortunately, thrips can fly ugh.
thank you for your post, I have the exact same issue with my monstera adansonii and was wondering for months whether it was having light or water issues. any advice on how to get rid of them?
