If you’re in need of gardening guidance or you’re ready to purchase some plants, a big plant sale in Overland Park can help you out this weekend. The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is preparing for its annual three-day Spring Plant Sale. Friday through Sunday, shoppers will find over 375 regionally grown plants. From annuals and perennials to grasses and native plants, the sale has something for all you gardeners out there. Every purchase from the sale also supports Friends of the Arboretum, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving and improving the arboretum for future generations. “That organization helps support us with new things like a new greenhouse,” said Anne Wildeboor, horticulture supervisor at the arboretum. “They help support the garden with educational activities. So, it’s a great thing to buy some beautiful plants and help support the gardens.” The Spring Plant Sale is located in front of the LongHouse Visitor Center and tickets are not required for admission. Members can attend the presale Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The sale opens to the general public Friday. It runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those in attendance on Saturday will receive a free seedling. Heads up, though: Members attending the presale Thursday should stay weather aware! There’s the potential for severe storms in the afternoon and evening, and the sale is weather permitting.
