Ive read many different methods of how people find it best to get their pups or cuttings to root.. ive seen just perlite, just coco coir, just pete moss, or a combo of sorts – some even including a tiny bit of soil.. and other folks who just let them sit (or stand up) and wait… what have you had most success with? Im relatively new to cacti – especially cuttings.. i have these 3 large althea pups currently sitting/standing in a bin with a mix of perlite coco coir and tiniest bit of regular potting soil.. the bin has some holes one the sode (though not many) and im keeping it in some shade with good air flow.. how long might one expect for these to get good enough roots to put into a pot? Thanks in advance!

I just put them atop soil. I have a Fruit Salad that decided to pup instead of rooting 🙃
I let callous for 3-4 weeks and plant directly in the soil and pot they will grow in. Water a few weeks after planting. 100% success rate over 8 years of doing it this way. I think people like to complicate the rooting process too much. I have also rooted directly in the ground.
I mix up some regular potting mix and perlite 50 50 in a very small pot like 1 cup. I set the cutting on top of the potting mix and water maybe twice a week. Doesn’t take long
I’ve only rooted one cutting so far, but I did it by just letting it sit on a mix of ~60% pumice and 40% potting soil. I kept the cutting under an intense grow light. It took about two months for roots to show up, which is when I started watering it.
I only got it right on the second attempt and it etiolated more than I’d liked, because I had to cut it and let it callous again due to rot caused by watering it before roots had formed.

My Althea cut is taking a lot longer (3 months) to really root. It’s got some roots coming out now, but it’s not pushing them with any pace. It is a small pup, so it might be quicker with a larger cutting. Mine is in dry soil mix on a heat pad.
I’ve been listening to the Pete Moss Experience again recently. Quality old guitar solos!
If you throw em on a rack long enough they’ll grow roots
Callous around 2 weeks, plant and water. Full wet/dry cycle.
I put it in my mix and let it ride.. most of the time roots in 6-8wks… ive had some take months though.
I just put it in the pot its gonna go in and lightly water it after a week, then every week after till you pull up and feel resistance.
