DEWITT — The Arkansas County Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale Saturday at the Arkansas County Fairgrounds in DeWitt, offering a variety of plants and new activities for attendees.

The sale, the group’s only fundraiser of the year, will run from 10 a.m. to noon and supports ongoing beautification and community projects across the county.

“We are really working hard to beautify our county so that people can understand just exactly what Master Gardeners do,” said Pat Kizzire, president of the organization.

In addition to a wide selection of plants, including shrubs, herbs, perennials and houseplants, organizers have added several new features this year. A children’s activity area, known as the “kiddy corner,” will give kids an opportunity to make seed starters to take home and grow.

Vendors will also offer handmade items, including waterproof seed-pack soap bags, along with decorative concrete stepping stones and flower pots created during Master Gardener workshops.

A new addition to this year’s event is a tool-sharpening service. Attendees can bring gardening tools beginning at 9:30 a.m. to be sharpened while they shop.

“He will sharpen hoes and shovels,” Kizzire said. “They can bring their tools with them … and come back outside and pick up their tools.”

A snack booth will offer both sweet and savory items, and door prizes donated by local businesses will also be available.

Organizers said the event is designed for gardeners of all experience levels, as well as families.

“There is a ton that will direct you where to turn,” Kizzire said of the fairgrounds setup, adding that volunteers will be on hand to assist visitors.
