Recently moved to eastern Branson, Missouri (rental property) and the yard has a lot of natural grasses but everything grows in area where there’s just rocks everywhere and I’m not sure what to do. A riding mower seems too expensive, but I’m not sure if that’s the only option open for any suggestions?

Honestly you’d probably be fine with a push mower. Typical advice is wait a year and see what all happens to the yard before you make major changes. Grass won’t grow well under trees or in rocky soil, get a soil test, yada yada
Rake the rocks and loose stuff off and raise the deck on a push mower and you will be fine. Remeber to wear your safety squints.
I would hard rake the lawn, till the dirt, and get either shade seed or shade sod.
