Riverside Discovery Center is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 Seacrest Beautification Grant from the Oregon Trail Community Foundation. This generous funding will support the creation of a new pollinator garden and expanded landscaping efforts throughout the zoo.
The project will transform key areas of Riverside Discovery Center into vibrant, ecologically beneficial spaces designed to support native pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. The pollinator garden will feature a variety of native plants selected to provide nectar and habitat throughout the growing season, while additional landscaping improvements will enhance the overall visitor experience.
“This grant allows us to take an important step forward in both conservation and guest engagement,” said Kei Hodgson, Executive Director of RDC “By creating a pollinator-friendly environment, we are not only beautifying the zoo but also contributing to the health of local ecosystems and providing educational opportunities for our visitors.”
The Seacrest Beautification Grant program supports projects that improve community spaces and promote environmental stewardship across the region. The pollinator garden at Riverside Discovery Center will serve as a living exhibit, helping guests learn about the critical role pollinators play in food systems and biodiversity.
Installation of the garden is scheduled to begin early May with opportunities for community involvement and volunteer participation.
