It is in my neighbor's yard, and I'm a very new gardener. The yard next door has someone that never does anything to their yard, which isn't my business but just giving context.
From the little “mystery plant in a neglected yard” vibe you’re describing, it could be a poppy or even a poppy-like wildflower that just self-seeded and did its own thing. Either way, I love when nature just quietly takes over a space like that.
