As more residences continue to pop up in San Marcos, Home Depot wants to help homeowners with their DIY projects.
The Atlanta-based home improvement company is tapping into the growth along the San Antonio-Austin corridor with its first location in the Hays County city.
According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Home Depot plans to open a 107,797-square-foot store with a 28,120-square-foot garden center at the intersection of Interstate 35 and McCarty Lane next year. The estimated $13 million project is expected to start in September and be completed by August 2027.
Several national retailers are following the growth of the city of San Marcos, which has seen its population jump from about 44,900 to 74,300 between 2010 and 2024, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Buc-ee’s is preparing to open its first location, and Birkenstock and Sephora plan to open stores at the San Marcos Premium Outlets.
Home Depot has several stores in the surrounding area, including Kyle, Seguin, New Braunfels, six in Austin and 13 in San Antonio. In 2024, the retailer opened a distribution center in Elmendorf to increase local inventory in the San Antonio area and deliver merchandise directly to job sites.
The home improvement company has been spending billions to attract more professional contractors through offerings such as enhanced supply chain logistics, digital project-planning tools and a Pro Xtra loyalty program. In 2024, Home Depot acquired Texas-based SRS Distribution, a McKinney-based materials provider for professionals, in an $18.25 billion deal.
