One of my favorite never-talked-about natives. The foliage is so unique looking with their prominent red veins. I've seen some with almost completely purple leaves, perhaps from more direct sun? They can grow in super hard, dry, compacted, nutrient poor places. The flowers themselves are very whimsical and cute. They're like multi-flowered dandelions on long stilts. Particularly happy plants can make two stalks with 6+ flowers on each.
They are very easily overtaken by other plants so are mainly seen in very dry, Barren areas that most other plants won't tolerate. In picture 4 you can see multiple growing on this dry compacted hill face with their long Flowering stalks.
They are very unassuming at a distance and are often hidden partially by leaves, but larger individuals or in large groups they can be eye catching. These grow quietly in a patch next to my pussytoes and put on a show of tons of tall yellow spindly flowers that jut up above the other short plants and grasses in their vicinity.

This is on my list of plants to add to the garden. I’d like it to accompany my Rattlesnake Master, Rattlesnake Root, and Rattlesnake Plantain 😄.
Extirpated from my county, I’d love to get my hands on seed some day
