entertaining your guests :-))))))))))) – a strange cliche in my books….. anyways, water the area 30 minutes before taking up sod and there will be no prying necessary. Also, sand was not removed before watering, now the tiles are hazy forever.
That white shirt stayed pretty damn clean though even with the mud. Project looks rad!
Looks great
move the sprinkler head, and add a drip line instead
you cracked it because you are using a metal mallet instead of a rubber mallet
#89 gravel instead of sand (industry standard now shifting to almost permeable for anything). Studier work surface, allows you to work in wet conditions, and more consistent of compaction. Always tamp after first vrokming of poly sand and blow off your polysand before wetting unless it is a Nitro sand explicity stating wet brooming.
thumbs down i had to skip 4mins of a vacuum. I came to see pavers
Wow lots of EXPERTS in these comment gees🙄
Looks like there's a buried swimming pool there! Look at the wide concrete white edge shape like a swimming pool edge
super
Sod cutters are a thing. 🤣
Looks great! A few questions though – did you end up digging 4 inches and grading? Didn't catch any of that in the video….
How come you didn't put a layer of geotextile fabric between the original soil and the base rock (the video shows you dumped the base rick directly on top of soil)? Isn't that helping to separate the base rock and soil from mixing over time?
Thanks.
Nice work! Looks great! Mental note to self: Make the firepit area a square and not a boob! LOL!
Pro tip. Keep sand in your pocket in case of an unwanted visitor. POCKET SAND
That turned out just beautiful and I'd love to enjoy a firepit in that area. You should post it with your firepit complete. I'd love to see it!
27:57 so immersed, I started sneezing from the dust
Did you compact the dirt?
Did you try to do the 1/4 inch slant per foot (or whatever it is) for water run off?
I did not see you trying to level the tiles as you placed them, is it because you just trusted the sand leveling?
I did this already once in my back yard and it was a terrible time, but I used larger pavers. So after doing the sand in the same method you did, I put pavers down but had to keep removing sand, or adding sand because it somehow wasnt level. I think its because I used 16×16 pavers that weighed 40lbs and when putting it down on the sand it would regularly dig into one side or another and push sand out into the way of the next paver.
I just wanna say, there's a lot of critics here, and yeah, they may be right about some things, but this video has a lot of value because people need to know how to employ their "caveman intuition" to solve problems in the real world when everything is not ideal (budget, time, resources, etc). Even if we become the case for what not to do, there's no shame in that, and i love your authenticity throughout the video. Good on ya for making this video! We need to learn to be more accepting and kind, something way more important than pavers.
lol my guy said “I am going to leave it (sprinkler) there and you are going to have to be alright with it.” Like it’s our yard and our opinion matters lol. Love it. Amazing work.
What trench shovel is that?
That looks like shit
33:29 why would you dig, when you can lift up the pavers and add the edge
What I learned from this project is that it is well worth the $$ to hire a contractor for our patio install.
I started to watch this due to the title. When it says, “Patio Pavers are expensive,” I expected that the video would show me how to save money on THE PAVERS! But then you went to a brickyard and purchased your two-sized pavers for $6 a sqft. Well, how do I save money doing that? I understand that doing the work myself will save me money but buying pavers at $6 sqft isn’t the answer.
I'm almost as wow reading the comments as watching the effort put into this. Bravo to you Mr Build It.
The dude built a paver patio by HIMSELF and still Internet can find things to say about it.
Beginning building mine next weekend. Thanks for the motivation buil-up.
