San Diego Book Crawl includes Del Mar’s Camino Books

San Diego is home to a growing community of independent bookstores that locals can visit at the three-day San Diego Book Crawl, which runs April 25-27 at 15 area bookstores, and is sponsored by the San Diego Library Foundation. Store hours vary by location. Free to participate, but participants who spend at least $10 at participating shops are eligible for prizes.One of the book stores participating in the event is Camino Books at the Del Mar Plaza. Los Angeles residents Alison Reid and John Evans own this bookstore, which the last of a five-store chain of bookshops that were launched in Oakland in 1989. Del Mar Community Garden Tour

The Del Mar Garden Club will offer a tour of three unique community gardens on May 9. Docents will share the history of the gardens, talk about the plantings and answer questions. Del Mar announces its 87th summer racing season

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club recently announced details for its 2026 Summer Racing Season. The world’s best Thoroughbreds will return to compete at the seaside oval in a season featuring 37 stakes races, an enhanced trackside event lineup, refreshed food and beverage experiences and more, according to a news release. The season kicks off with one of Southern California’s biggest parties of the year, Opening Day presented by Caesars Sportsbook on Friday, July 17 and runs through Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day). Public invited to Sheriff’s presentation on home safety strategies

Salute to Young Musicians Concert

The Coastal Communities Concert Band (CCC Band), an award-winning symphonic band of more than 70 musicians from throughout San Diego County will present their annual Salute to Young Musicians Concert on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at the San Dieguito Academy Gymnasium, 800 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas. La Jolla Secret Garden Tour

For the 27th year, the La Jolla Historical Society will offer a glimpse behind the walls of some of La Jolla’s most beautiful, secluded gardens at its Secret Garden Tour on May 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Each garden will have live music and artwork on display, and docents will offer information on the plants and history of the properties. Mama’s Kitchen fundraiser set for May

The annual Mama’s Day event benefiting Mama’s Kitchen is from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 16 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, 1 Park Blvd. The event includes food, live music, pop-up booths, opportunity drawings and a photo booth.
