These are 25 gallon grow bags, dimensions 22”x22”x16”. I wanted to leave 4 inches of space on the top for mulch so with some table top math, I figured 3 cubit feet per grow bags times 9 grow bags equal basically a yard. So I got a yard from a local bulk place and I guess after compaction, I was only up to about 10” in each bag. Decided to plant my blackberries in a mound since they don’t need all that space just yet.

Not sure if this is the right move. Wondering if I should:

  1. Fill in with more soil before mulching or

  2. Deep mulch it as is or

  3. Flatten it back down and then mulch

Maybe imm over thinking but I don’t want to kill my brand new babies

More roots–which require more space and more soil–yields more berries.
