I bought him before he start putting up new paddles. The new ones grew fast! And they look very healthy. What’s going on with the rest of it? I water once every 2-3 weeks. The humidity in my house is 20% in winter/spring. He’s in a south single pane window or outside if it’s above 50. He’s spent a few overnights outside as I get ready to transition him to the yard once winter lets up.

So why is he wrinkled? Why is he so purple and yellowish? The paddles I dared to touch aren’t squishy by any means. My water is very hard. It’s well water.

Also bonus points if you know what type of prickly pear he is!

Looks like opuntia santa-rita. It looks perfectly healthy to me

That’s a baby Rita. Hybrid variant of the Santa Rita. The purple in these is caused by temperature, (cool) or drought.
