    This looks like herbicide damage. Has your lawn been treated at all or could it have washed in from somewhere else?

    I thought for sure this would be broadleaf pesticide damage.

    In looking online I found a link to an American peony Society that shows VERY similar damage. They indicate it is the herbicide 24D damage.

    24D is banned for any residential /cosmetic/ lawncare access where I live. But depending on where you live, it, or a similarly potent broadleaf herbicide may have been sprayed over your garden grass.

    It may recover in a couple of years with care, but the herbicide causes some pretty severe damage.

    Poisoned by an herbicide. Unfortunately, it will only got worse until it’s totally dead.

    Give it a few more days; it should straighten up. Mine look all wonky when they first leaf out too (although not quite as much).

    Did you use “weed and feed” on your lawn?  Because that is a reaction to herbicide.
