Installed by landscaping company about two weeks ago. I expected it to harden. It’s soft and can scrape away with my finger extremely easily

I’ve seen this happen before from poly sand that did get wet but didn’t harden. Could’ve been a bad batch but I don’t know. I ended up blowing out the poly sand and installing a new batch and it worked great. For gaps that big make sure you are using poly sand that is good for large gaps. I use Alliance Gator Super Sand G2 polymeric sand for paver joints up to 2″. But they make one for up to 4″ too. That shouldn’t have stopped your poly sand from hardening. The sand for bigger gaps is for longevity so regardless of the the size of the gaps the sand is for, it should still harden. Something is wrong here.

This happened to my in laws on an expensive fire pit project, they ended up calling and getting them to redo it.

Apparently the dude overwatered/under watered and it don’t cure correctly.

It was not holding anything into place and looked similar to this.

They need to let it dry, vacuum it out, and replace it.

Can that stuff freeze over the winter and still be used or is it toast after that?

  6. No they didn’t soak the poly sand all the way through went they installed it a lot of people under water it, put your hose on the very lightest setting like sprinkle, the soak it through until you see it start to bubble that’s the sand underneath reacting and the air coming out. If you just lightly soak it you end up with a crust on top then untouched dry poly sand underneath and by then the glue and faded and sunk into the soil.
