Damn is that from planet Earth?

Without more context, it’s hard to tell what it is, but definitely not a *Mandragora officinarum* nor any of the other plants who’s trivial name is a variant of Mandrake. Obligatory reminder, that *Mandragora sp.* are nightshades and packed full of dangerous alkaloids.

When I was a kid in the 1970s we knew that mandrakes were traditionally said to scream when pulled up, so we’d pull them, though we knew they would never scream. And they didn’t. Their leaves didn’t look like your photo, though.

    My condolences.

The traditional method was to dig it most of the way out, then tie it to a starving dog with a food dish just out of reach.

Yet another reminder that, even when harvesting fictional plants, people suck.

Am I the only one that thinks of Dr. Stangelove when I hear mandrake?
