Garden City issues burn ban
GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WSAV) — Garden City has issued a temporary city-wide burn ban effectively immediately due to dry weather conditions.
Garden City Fire Rescue posted the ban on their social media Monday that, due to elevated fire danger conditions caused by the dry weather, low humidity and an increased risk of uncontrolled outdoor fires.
The ban includes the following prohibited activities:
open burning of yard debris, leaves or trash
land clearing burns, bonfires, recreational fires and any outdoor burning not specifically exempted
The following activities ARE permitted:
cooking fires such as grilles used for food preparation (provided they are attended at all times)
The burn ban will be enforced by the Garden City Fire Marshal’s Office. Violations may result in citations, fines or other legal action.
The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve and the ban is officially lifted. Residents are encouraged to avoid any activity that may create sparks or open flames. Properly dispose of smoking materials and immediately report any fire by calling 911.
