So last year I posted our side garden bed and yall were NOT happy and after being in the sub for the year, I know why! Metal barriers, weed matting, white rock, rubber mulch – the horror!! My poor cannas were all stuck and it took forever to dig the weed matting out (but we did it!)

This year‘s projects I tried to get my husband to be more “natural,“ but he still couldn’t give up all of the metal barrier/pavers. However, I’m super happy with the compromise and the outcome !! And we’ve kept weed matting and barriers away from our trees and garden beds so I feel like we’re winning 😍😍🤩🤩

Where are you that you’re planting birds of paradise in your landscaping?

Wow that’s a ton of work. Yay you!

Looks incredible. Noticed you’re in florida – any concern with termites with the mulch against your house?

I’m near a chain of lakes and tons of water and noticed some neighbors have a moat of rocks against their house instead of grass / mulch. Haven’t asked them about it though.

    Looks tight.

Downspouts will wash all that mulch away with the first Big Rain. Consider getting extenders or doing something to control that water.

Do you have pics of the transition from mulch walkway in the backyard to the grass? Considering doing something similar but not sure how to transition without it looking silly

Stay on top of the grass!! We have had an issue with grass overtaking our garden beds.

Looks great. Just know, this will likely be the best your white rock path ever looks. It’s such a maintenance heavy choice long term to keep this look. I eventually made the switch because it was unmaintainable for me.

I feel you on the metal barriers…I have to have them due to zoysia sending out runners 6 inches below the surface as well as on surface.
