York County Master Gardeners will celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting at the Historic Tree Arboretum at John Rudy Park in East Manchester.
According to a Master Gardeners’ statement, they will have their Arbor Day program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Historic Tree Arboretum in the park located at 400 Mundis Race Road.

Master Gardener and Historic Tree Arboretum Chair Dean Emig will give opening remarks at 11 a.m. followed by the tree planting.
A 3.5-ft. Jimmy Carter Pecan Tree (Carya illinoinensis) that was grown from a tree on the property of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter at his family home in Plains, Georgia will be planted. The planting of this sapling will mark the 23rd historical tree to join the collection at the Historic Tree Arboretum.
Community members and visitors are invited to the ceremony. Guests can park in the lots by the Pavilions at the park. Master Gardeners will direct visitors to the Historic Tree Arboretum nearby where seating will be available for the program.

From 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., guided tours of the Arboretum will be given by York County Master Gardeners. There will also be educational displays and information on special topics, including proper tree planting techniques and tree care.
