This pothos is approaching 2 years old, and it seems like an absurd amount of plant to be coming out of the pot that it's in. I have never kept a houseplant alive for this long (although you'll find evidence of previous root abuse in my post history, those plants were intended to be temporary). It appears to be as healthy and as vigorous as ever.

It's become so tangled up in its surroundings, I'm not sure if I could re-pot it successfully. Will there come a point where it's no longer able to withstand the non-consensual bondage I've subjected its roots to? Or is it possible for it to continue to thrive indefinitely in the same pot?

You can always keep it in the same pot if you don’t want to change the pot. You just trim the plant and trim the roots so the plant is smaller. Then it will fill up the pot again after years and repeat. If you never want to trim it or trim the roots, that’s a different question. You could keep it in there a very very long time but if it stays very healthy, it will eventually get root bound. But pothos can keep growing a looooong time without getting root bound. I wouldn’t even think to check after 2 years.
