So, I'm fortunate to have a plethora of Stag Beetles and Stag Beetle grubs living in my garden. A ton live in the compost, eating the dead wood.

They're protected in the UK due to becoming endangered. As such, I'm avoiding turning the compost heap to avoid disturbing them. I've been adding other greens and waste to the pile, but I am now concerned, if the pile starts to rot and generate heat, could that be harmful? Am I best off just leaving it and making a new pile elsewhere, or will they be hardy enough to survive the compost heap temperatures?

Bonus Stag Beetle Tax.

i wouldn’t add really any greens, i’d make a pile elsewhere. Layer sticks. logs etc away from your new compost pile to hopefully attract them elsewhere (and create a habitat for other things as well)
