SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — Unity Gardens hosted an early celebration for Earth Day on Saturday.

The day was filled with volunteer opportunities, educational workshops, and learning sessions.

It started with a workshop and a walk for guests to take part in.

Organizers then held their annual award presentation and had a speaker talk about the history of the garden.

“So Unity Garden’s whole mission is connecting people to your fresh food, nature, and each other. And I think Earth Day is a really just great symbol of celebrating nature, appreciating nature. I think it’s really encouraging when you meet people who are also excited about building up our ecosystem, connecting with other people, and getting outside,” said Unity Gardens Director of Operations, Katie Lane.
