I‘m a furnituremaker and woodworking teacher with 15 years of experience and I‘m quite skilled with japanese tools and techniques. I am planning to build some artisan training boxes for my pre-bonsai with long lasting kinds of wood like mahogany, eucalyptus, oak or robinia and handmade joinery, maybe even with urushi laquer as a finish. The boxes are meant to develop patina over the seasons and beautifully age with the tree.
I‘m all new in the bonsai community so I wonder if you would be interested in seeing custom made training boxes, maybe even consider ordering one? I don’t want to sell you something right away, just a question out of curiosity. I also want to build a bench using joints found in traditional japanese houses and temples.

Interesting idea, but personally no. I’m going for the cheapest approach to grow boxes as nice pots are where I would invest in the container for a tree. I see grow boxes as nearly 100% functional.
I think quality display stands would be a better target market, though you’re maybe less likely to see engagement on that topic here in this subreddit as it generally skews more towards the casual and novice bonsai practitioner who isn’t yet thinking of display.
Being present at shows (US National and PBE, along with regional shows) and posting on the Facebook groups are where there would be more interest.
(Realized you’re in Germany, so different shows involved – The Trophy, UBE, Crespi Cup – but same thought applies.)
Looking good!
That dovetail is amazing.
