Bought this last fall and it was doing fine. This winter was rough i had it under a table that had a cloth over it for half the winter then put it in the shed. I watered it as usual during the winter. It looks like its going downhill already this spring. Should i repot right away? Let it go? What is usually the cause for this? Cause this is the 2nd jbp ive had that this happened to. Any help would be great

I am no expert at all but it looks like that the bark of your tree fall off the trunk that could meen that it is to wet

And pike trees don’t go dormant in winter they need sun light even in winter so covering them is not the best idea of putting them in a shed

I think repotting a weak tree is not a good idea

    Sorry for my bad English

To tell if its abiotic or biotic, see if all the tree is afflicted at once, or does it start in a region and spread

It looks widespread to me, so I think abiotic, like water or cold

Started in the spring thaw. “Hard winter” and “watered like normal” is doing a lot of heavy lifting, I think its some sort of exposure/water issue. Wind exposure in the winter can sublimate the moisture in the pot, which can kill a tree that’s otherwise cold hardy

Pines like it dry, overwatering could be an issue too

Did it start dying from the top or bottom first?

If the soil drains, don’t repot. Don’t let it stay wet too long. Not allowing it sun was very bad and it will need special care until it regains vigor.
