Hello! I have a Monestera that has had multiple yellowing leaves recently, and I am not sure why. I live in Zone 6b. I have trimmed off 2-3 leaves that had turned completely yellow, and I notice more are still turning yellow. Here are the details:

  • I recently moved from the plant from my moms house to my apartment (same climate/zone/light). It was doing really well at my moms house, I noticed once I moved it to my apartment the yellowing leaves started.
  • It sits right next to a west facing window, that gets lots of bright indirect light and some direct light. This was the same situation at my moms house where it came from.
  • As for watering, I always heir on the side of UNDERwatering, because I know overwatering is a common issue.
  • The way the plant is staked is not the best, as it was neglected for many years and has gotten quite leggy and unruly, so I just do my best. But perhaps I need to re-stake it again.

My first thought was I must be overwatering it, however, when I checked the soil, I noticed it was BONE dry. So I think the possible root causes could be:

  1. I was actually UNDERwatering it, some of the tips of the leaves were a little brown and crispy.
  2. The transition was a bit stressful for the plant to a new space
  3. It does desperately need to be repotted, which I plan to do within the next two weeks, however I was trying to let it settle into the new space before repotting. The plant has been doing fine so I also don't think this is the cause for the recent yellowing leaves.

Please let me know your thoughts! I checked thoroughly for pests and don't see any.
