Another growing season is upon Agassiz-Harrison.

There are still a few spots available at the Agassiz Community Gardens for those interested in joining this upcoming planting season. The community gardens have 50 total plots, including four raised beds for those living with mobility issues.

As of publication, there are four plots and one raised bed available; email agassizcommunitygardens@gmail.com for more information. The plots are 16 feet by 16 feet.

The Agassiz Community Gardens is a non-profit organization that was originally located on Pioneer Avenue in the Agassiz townsite. After 15 years of activity and 60 garden plots, a private owner sold the land in 2018, which meant the gardens needed to find a new home.

After a number of attempts to secure new land, they finally put down roots on Morrow Road on land leased from BC Hydro in early 2020.

The Agassiz Community Gardens was meant to have its grand opening in March of 2020, but that was when the COVID-19 pandemic reached the Fraser Valley. The official celebration, instead, took place in August 2021, with dignitaries from the federal and municipal government in attendance.

The current mayor of the District of Kent, Sylvia Pranger, said her husband John was part of the creation of the original community gardens.
