OP I also really want peacocks (to help with snakes) but I worry about the noise. I’m interested to see what others experiences are!

We had a few growing up- they DESTROYED the paint on my mom’s car, were super loud, pooped everywhere, and attacked our cocker spaniel. You would need to keep them cooped/fenced in to avoid these issues. I vote NAY.
Edit: also if you have a pair of males, they will fight, likely to the death.

Hey idk about the benefits but I lived on a huge property with peacocks when I was a teenager.
My duplex neighbor who had a huge garden was always chasing them off with the hose because they’d get into his plants.
I stg they are the loudest bird though. They’d roost outside of my brother’s window and then start screaming and wake the entire house up at daybreak. My poor brother is traumatized. He still talks about it with a thousand yard stare 16 years later.

Their sound is an acquired taste tolerated by few. When a baby my parents had neighbors who got them once and according to my parents and others in the neighborhood it was worse than roosters crowing. We had a peahen loose in the current suburbs we live in few years ago (couple neighborhoods by us are grandfathered in at being allowed livestock), she was a pain to catch and cackled like an evil witch while flying away. She also liked to climb on top of vehicles, a neighbor raised the stakes trying to shoot it in the neighborhood after he came home from being away for weeks as an oil rigger to find his new truck’s paint job had been scratched up.

If you like the sound, it’s not bad at all. Honestly I love the peahens because they sometimes make this glorious noise that sounds like a semi truck horn being tooted through a giant kazoo.
They are prone to wander if you don’t have them fenced in a roofed aviary, but you can keep them close with feed and delicious snacks. They love anise seed.
Also if you have a pond, herons don’t like them and their presence can be the deterrent that saves your fish. And they’re good at driving snakes off if you live somewhere with venomous snakes.

They are really loud. And their scream is just human enough to make the amygdala fire up and get the cortisol racing.

I want to preface this by clearly stating i have zero experience with raising anything but kids, dogs, a rat and a snake. Im still working on cleaning up my new property to start homesteading so i’ve got no clue honestly.
I did see a video where someone was talking about their peacock actually protecting them and their chickens, like it stepped in when a rooster was being aggressive. I’ve also heard they’re good at spotting predators.
A buddy of mine raises them. He said eggs can go for like $75 each, and he’s seen a pair of birds sell for around $6k at auction. He also said they learn what belongs on the property and will make noise when something is up.
Plus, if anyone in your family is crafty you can use the feathers they drop.

I was attacked by a farm peacock as a kid, mostly cause 6 year olds aren’t intimidating, but those birds are mean and I hate them
